An Amazon affiliate store looks and works like a normal online shop, with one difference. When a visitor clicks a product, they finish the purchase on Amazon. Amazon picks, packs, ships and handles the returns. You earn a commission through the Amazon Associates programme, and on the rest of the qualifying basket too, not only on the item you sent them to.
That removes the two hardest parts of ecommerce: buying stock and serving customers. What is left is choosing a niche worth ranking for, and putting the right products in front of the people who arrive. FreshStore does the building, the product data and the writing.
Amazon sets commission by product category and publishes the current rate card inside Associates Central. The spread between categories is wide, and a few categories pay nothing at all, so the niche you choose decides more than the size of your store does. Two stores with identical traffic can earn very different amounts.
The upside is that commission is credited on the whole qualifying order, not only the product you linked to. Somebody who arrives for a kettle and leaves with a trolley of kitchenware pays you on all of it. That is why niches full of accessories, refills and companion products tend to beat one-off purchase niches, and it is worth thinking about before you pick.
Opening an Associates account is free, takes a few minutes, and you can do it from anywhere in the world. You do not have to live in the United States to promote amazon.com. Amazon does not inspect your website when you sign up either. You get a tracking ID straight away and can start linking with it the same day.
The rule that catches people is the qualifying-sales rule. You need three qualifying sales within 180 days of joining. Miss it and Amazon closes the account. That is recoverable, because you can apply again with the same details and receive a new tracking ID, but it is the reason we suggest opening your Associates account once your store is built rather than months beforehand. Starting the clock before you have anything to send traffic to is the most common way a beginner loses a tag.

Associates is free and opens instantly, but the 180-day clock starts the moment you join. Build your store first so that the clock starts when you actually have somewhere to send buyers.
Type something Amazon sells deeply, like "espresso machines" or "dog coats". FreshStore pulls matching products from the Amazon catalogue, sorts them into categories, and writes the buying guides and reviews around them.
Your tag is the Associates Store ID you chose, ending in a two-digit country suffix such as -20 for the US or -21 for the UK. Add one per Amazon country you have enabled. Every Amazon link rewrites itself to credit you. No API keys are involved.
Standard product links carry Amazon's 24 hour cookie. Switch your buy buttons to Add to Cart links and the window becomes 90 days. Amazon reports the sales in Associates Central and pays you directly.
