Fresh Store Instant (2017 to 2023)
Fresh Store Instant was our second-generation platform: the first version with hosting included, and stores that launched instantly. It was retired in 2023 and replaced by FreshStore. Here is what happened to it, from the founder, and what it means if you were a member.

We finished Fresh Store Instant in 2017. It hosted your store for you and let you create stores instantly, hence the name. Members loved the speed, and we had many success stories.
But the platform sat on weak technical foundations. Development slowed, and I could not ship the features I really wanted to give our members. So we started again, properly, on cloud hosting. We called it FreshStore: a shorter, cleaner name for a platform that was by then over 12 years old.
FreshStore is the version I always wanted to build. Thank you to every Fresh Member who has been part of the journey from Fresh Store Builder, to Fresh Store Instant, and now to FreshStore.
The point it settled was that nobody wants to be their own sysadmin. Fresh Store Builder had asked every owner to find hosting, install a PHP application and keep patching it. Fresh Store Instant took all of that away and put the store on our servers instead. Setup went from an afternoon to a few clicks, and the people who had bought FSB and never launched anything finally had a live site.
Where it ran out of road was underneath. The platform was built on foundations that made each new feature harder than the last, so the roadmap slowed while the ideas piled up. Rewriting one part at a time would have taken longer than starting again, and the store would have stayed on old ground the whole time.
FreshStore is that restart. AI writing categories, articles and product copy, five marketplace feeds instead of the original set, and infrastructure that scales without anyone touching it. Etsy and Walmart both arrived with FreshStore. So did the free vanity domains, automatic SSL and the member API. None of them fit on the old foundations, which is the whole reason for the rebuild.
Retiring a platform people paid for is a cost to them, not just to us. Anyone happy on Fresh Store Instant had to move to something new, learn a new dashboard and rebuild a store that was already working. We think it was the right call, because leaving members on software that could not follow marketplace changes would have cost them more slowly and less honestly. It was still a disruption, and pretending otherwise on a page like this would be worth nothing.
